The Impressionist Adventure
To mark the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition and in conjunction with the exhibition "Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism" exhibition, the Musée d'Orsay is offering a series of 6 lectures for the general public, looking at Impressionism from a fresh and dynamic angle. Take the time to rediscover this movement through essential themes: painting techniques, landscape, models, the art market, Impressionism and cinema.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition, and in conjunction with the exhibition “Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism” exhibition, which opened its doors at the Musée d’Orsay on 6 March 2024, a series of 6 lectures for the general public looks at Impressionism from a fresh and dynamic angle.

A fifth lecture is devoted to the technique of the Impressionists. Impressionist paintings are recognisable by their range of colours and their rapid brushstrokes, but in reality each of the painters in this movement developed his or her own technique. Discover the characteristics common to the Impressionists’ technique thanks to scientific images taken during the restoration of works at the Musée d’Orsay.

A talk by Bénédicte Trémolières, restorer.
