The Impressionist Adventure
To mark the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition and in conjunction with the exhibition "Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism" exhibition, the Musée d'Orsay is offering a series of 6 lectures for the general public, looking at Impressionism from a fresh and dynamic angle. Take the time to rediscover this movement through essential themes: painting techniques, landscape, models, the art market, Impressionism and cinema.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition, and in conjunction with the exhibition “Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism” exhibition, which opened its doors at the Musée d’Orsay on 6 March 2024, a series of 6 lectures for the general public looks at Impressionism from a fresh and dynamic angle.

This third lecture looks at the art market. Come in, have a look and buy if you like! In the first Impressionist exhibition, the works were also for sale. What role did the art market play in the development of the Impressionist movement? The art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel (1841-1922) was responsible for spotting and promoting the Impressionists internationally. In what way was he the ancestor of the gallery owner as we know him today?

A talk by Sylvie Patry, Artistic Director of Galerie Mennour, Paris
